Bacteria bloom
« on: August 02, 2013, 10:27:49 PM »
Who put all that milk in my tank  ::) well that's what it looked like.

After some diagnosis, it would appear that I created a bacteria bloom by topping up my biopearls - way too much.

After a lot of reading etc, and patience, I expected the bloom to dissipate after a short while, tried more water changes, carbon etc  no improvement.

So, I bought a UV steriliser, sceptical as I was I thought, well I need to get this sorted, so after a couple of days running I can now see that there are rocks in my tank, whereas before my limit was about 2" visibility.

Took a fair bit of work to get it installed and plumbed in, this thing is huge, I had to remove the sump to get it in. which is what I will need to do when I need to replace the bulb in a years time too.

On the mend again, time to start being a good parent and get the husbandry in check ...  :-[

The tank was just pure white, the sump looked like a Jacuzzi with washing liquid in it.

Filter socks still changing 2 x daily, but getting there.
