Diy plankton prouction
« on: June 06, 2013, 11:30:11 PM »
Thought i would get back in to making plankton, first time around used wine demijohns and some micircle grow, oh how things change, so got my self some k2 fert and a little bottle off a mate to seed it.

Used 2ltr coke bottles drilled a 1mm hole in the lid to let air out and a 4mm hole for the airline, i bought some ayclic rods and cut them to around 400mm to get right to the bottom of the bottle as the air line just flops. The airpump i have spare is a aqua one 12000 lph four outlet should do the job.

So wanted to do some brine as well so two bottles one with seeded plankton pale green and other brine in, sg is 1019 in both and both in the outhouse window using natural light, the one with brine in went green in 1 week with no seeding nor fert how the heck did that happen.

Now got 5 x 2ltr bottles 2 with brine in and 3 with plankton, the temp of the bottles must get over 35 deg but the stuff is a very dark green, i add around 1 ltr a week to the tank corals seem to come out more when adding it. Will add pics later on

I have been thinking about getting started with some plankton again.  I remember using miracle grow on my last cultures I had going. I would like to get some rotifers going also.  Here's a pic of my last setup.
