Any one have any expertise on ponds ?

On new ponds do you need to add filter bacteria and can you get away with out a filter box just a fountain ?
Enjoy your stay on Ukreefs, please don't hesitate to contact the team if you have any recommendations

A pond will cycle the same as one of our displays mate...(you need noddles etc)...as for only a fountain the only prob i've seen is all the crap sits on the bottom of the pond and slowly builds up then blocks the pump

Hey Kev,

You do need a drainage system, cos a pond generate way more crap than any of our reef systems ever will.

I have a 10,000lt koi pond, which has 2 bottom drains that feed into a mechanical filter first, that is gravity equally fed.., this unit has brushes on the inside that collect most solid waste, it has three chambers. On the last chamber is a pump that then pumps this to a bio-filter which then complete the nitrogen cycle. This bio filter is about 500lt on its own and has sorts like polyurethane strand like material, which makes for excellent surface area for bacteria to grow on..

This then feeds to a plant filter which is supposed to get rid of nitrates and phosphates...

The pond gets dirty way too quick..

I'll try and get some pics for you a bit later in the day...

It depends what your keeping in it if its a natural pond with only what goes in it then a fountain is ok and you dont need a filter, but if its a stocked pond with fish in then you will need a filter etc for the fish you are keeping. You dont keep fish you keep the water and if its ok the fish will live and thrive in it. Eric :86:
