Yes the tank was built by myself . I have decided to replace the front pane with 10mm glass asap. I will just put it down to a lesson learnt..  :41:

Hi did you not read my post  :-[as if you go 2x2 you need 10mm glass in all the panels as 6mm is no good and you will have a smashed tank  :'( if you leave the 6mm in. Eric

If the rear panel is supported in the middle from the wier then I dont see why you would need to replace it as the glass on the wier will keep it true. Your side panels are only 2ft wide and although your tank is 2ft deep your water level wont be 2ft, By the time you loose the depth from your euro style bracing I would imagine your water line will sit around 21inch. so I would think the 6mm would be fine also. Just replace your front pane for 10mm

Just my opinion tho and go with what lets you sleep comfortably at night

The rear pane should be fine but that fronmt pane needs sorting or it could all end in a very wet floor.

Drain it down and replace the front the back as TBP should be fine due to weit and bracing

I wouldnt leave it as it may continue to bow and itll reach stress point and go off bang
Happy to help with any issues you may have......

Happy reefing

Well said thats what i would do as i would not risk my stock in a tank like that even with a 10mm front, if he his prepared to to the risk thats upto him. Eric :86:

All our coral tanks are only 10" high but al built out of  10mm glass.  Build safe build once.
Trying to cut corners in this hobby always ends up costing more in the long  run :(

Hi all and thanks for the advice. I did check the rest of the glass for bowing before draining half of the water out of it. I found the rear pane and the two side panels to be fine without any bowing whatsoever..
What I have done so far is to drain the tank to half,Cut the front of my weir of and lowered the drain pipes so that I can still use the sump . This is only a temp measure . As for building a complete new tank The cash is a bit short at the mo and just for the front pain alone it is 75 bearing in mind I built the whole tank using new glass for 80. But in hind sight I wish I built it in 10mm. But lesson learnt on my next tank I think I will go a bit ott with the glass thickness lol. But at least I now know I can build my own tank and has set the imagination into overdrive lol.

But thanks again for all the advice and i will keep all who is intrested updated in my tank thread.

Awsome site...... :c029:

Well if and when you build your new tank and you say you will up the thickness 12mm glass costs about 3 times more than 10mm and 15mm is nearly 6 times as much. If your near Leeds i know a guy who makes tanks and supplies glass in the right cut sizes to make your own tank at a good price. Eric :86:
