New adventure
« on: February 25, 2014, 10:06:19 PM »
Hi, long time not posting yet still reading here. I just want to share with you guys my new project, started in december and still a long way to go, but geting there slowly.

Its a dropoff reef, 120cm long, 70cm width, 100 x 50 x 70cm drop side and 70x70x50cm right side of tank.

I read anything I found on the web about dropoffs tanks, lots of problems to solve, scared about leakings and stuff, but crossed my fingers and ordered one....rimmles, coast to coast overflow and bean animal overflow.

I started the cycle so it will be a while until I can add some life in there, so its only build pictures for now. Hope youll enjoy.

Old tank on its better days:

Building the stand

Comparation, sorry for the crappy mobile pics

Preparing the stand and rock structure. Used dead rocks from a friend tank, cleaned with bleach and two acid baths, so preaty clean and dead. Used 20mm pvc pipe, zip ties, and cement.

Lower part almost finished, curring for one week in freshwater

Finishing the stand, quality inpection included :))

Second part, sump is on the terrace behind the tank if somebody is asking,

Rock structure finished.

Sump:

For lights I used my older fixture module for the shalow zone and added another module with independent Jarduino controller for the deep zone.
2x30W multichip lumia type leds complemented by 4 dualcore violets @1000mA from steveleds and 8 cree xpe royal blues, all driven by ldd drivers. Some pics of the process.

CNC routing for Jarduino tfts

30W multichip with 90 optic

testing

Last part, hung the fixture properly and added sand and new skimmer. For circulation I have 2MP40, a litle disapointed for the noise, my oder MP10 were almost dead silent. those 40 are not.

Sump, this weeken I will receive the zeo reactor.

Sand added, I use white ATI Fiji fine sand

At last clear water

More to come this weekend.
